International Advisory Board

The Editor

Strengthening Health Systems is edited by Hannah Kikaya, a former Lancet senior editor and leader writer (2000-2006) who has also worked extensively for the World Health Organization’s African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control (2007-2010) – which pioneered the use of community health workers for health systems strengthening among many other global health innovations – and the World Bank (2010-2013), where she helped to establish its award-winning health programme in Southern Africa.

The International Advisory Board

Strengthening Health Systems’ International Advisory Board (IAB) reflects the cross-cutting aims of the journal: to forge connections between academia, policy makers and implementers and capture the totality of knowledge about health systems interventions, regardless of the origin or professional cadre of the authors.

The function of the IAB is to help shape the journal as a tool that is both innovative and relevant to health systems professionals, and that helps to strengthen the scientific record for health systems interventions. IAB members perform this function through active consultation on journal policies, suggestion of topics for commissioned articles, and advocacy for the journal through professional networks. Peer review of submitted papers is not done by the IAB but by individual reviewers selected for their professional expertise, knowledge of the relevant geographical context, or methodological insights. For more information on the peer review process please see Writing and Reviewing for SHS.

IAB members have been invited because of their influence and impact in one of the journal’s three target constituencies: researchers; policy makers and donors; and implementers. Confirmed members at the journal’s launch in July 2014 are listed below. The IAB will continue to grow as the journal becomes more established.
